Dr. Gerndt sees adults, older adolescents, seniors, couples, and families.

Treatment Specialties:

Sexual Problems: Dr Gerndt treats a variety of sexual disorders including: Male Erectile Disorder, Premature Ejaculation, and Hypoactive (i.e., low) Sexual Desire Disorder.  In addition, Dr. Gerndt provides treatment for concerns over sexual orientation, gender identity, or relationship/intimacy issues.  Finally, Dr. Gerndt provides treatment for adult and adolescent male survivors of sexual abuse.

Sexual Behavior Concerns: Dr. Gerndt treats problems concerning unwanted and/or harmful sexual interests and behaviors.  Such behaviors include: sexual compulsivity (i.e., sexual addiction), fetish behaviors, and sexual interests and behaviors that are illegal and/or harmful to others (such as sexual interest in minors, non-consenting and/or violent sexual behaviors).  In addition, Dr. Gerndt is the co-founder and director of the Specialized Treatment of Perpetration (STOP) program, a highly structured, group-based, cognitive-behavioral treatment program for men who have committed harmful sexual acts and who wish to understand, eliminate, and manage risk for such behaviors.

Mood/Emotional Problems: He also provides therapy for mood disorders such as Anxiety Spectrum Disorders (e.g., Generalized Anxiety Disorder, Social Phobia [i.e., anxiety] Disorder, Obsessive-Compulsive Disorder, Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder), Depressive Disorders, and Bipolar Disorder.

Psychological and Risk Assessments: Dr. Gerndt conducts psychological screening and assessments as an adjunct to therapy, as a consultant to colleagues and their clients, and to inform the courts.  Dr. Gerndt also performs psychosexual assessments, including actuarial measures of risk for problematic and illegal sexual behaviors.

Anger/Aggression Management: Dr. Gerndt provides individual therapy for anger dyscontrol and domestic violence.  While no longer the main focus of Dr. Gerndt’s practice, he continues to provide assessments and therapy, as well as referrals to structured group programs.

Training and Experience:
Dr. Gerndt has over 25 years of experience providing psychotherapy and psychological evaluations.  He has worked and/or consulted in community mental health centers, private non-profit agencies (e.g., Family Service Associations, Catholic Charities Centers), State Mental Health hospitals, and the Wisconsin Department of Corrections.
