Experience:

Clinical Substance Use:
With well over 35 years of clinical substance abuse treatments covering the spectrum of hospital, residential, outpatient, and legal-diversion programming, James treats a wide range of substance abuse issues. In the past, he has been a clinical director for several substance abuse programs as well as having created and facilitated an opioid case-management diversion program. He is well-versed in treating opioid use disorders with extensive knowledge and protocols with all the medications used in the treatment of opioid abuse.

Mental Health:
James treats many mood disorders as co-occurring conditions with substance use as well as primary conditions apart from substance issues, including depression, anxiety related disorders, post-traumatic stress.

Clinical/Legal:
James provides comprehensive substance use evaluations upon request for private attorneys; for court-ordered assessments; and upon request for county diversion-related programs. James has done extensive substance evaluations in the jails for diversion-treatment release, clinical assessments in the prisons, as well as for private defense attorneys.

Teaching/Training:
James has taught the large AODA class for the UW School of Social Work, and has guest lectured for many social work and criminal justice classes. He presented at Wisconsin’s first Heroin Summit in 2015. Since that time, he has also trained new Probation and Parole Agents in Wisconsin in Opioids and Opioid Treatments.

Education/Licensing/Affiliations:
While holding a Master’s Degree in Social Work from UW Madison and licensed as a Clinical Social Worker and Marriage and Family Therapist, he is also a Clinical Substance Abuse Counselor and an Independent Clinical Supervisor in the State of Wisconsin. James is an Associate Member of the American Society of Addiction Medicine, and a Professional Member of the National Association of Alcoholism and Drug Addiction Counselors.
